Each probe sends one GET request, waits up to eight seconds, reads the status line and headers, and hangs up without downloading the page. Redirects aren't followed — a 301 is shown as a 301, with where it points. Anything under HTTP 400 counts as up.
The probes are the same three machines that run every paid monitor on Repose. Their health over the last 24 hours is public at repose.sh/probes.
Private addresses, localhost, cloud metadata endpoints, or ports other than 80, 443, 8080 and 8443. A public checker that will request anything is a port scanner with a nice font.
The URL and the three results, for 24 hours, then they're deleted. Your IP address is never stored — only a salted hash of it, so the rate limit can count.
